Trichy: Nearly 7,000 candidates from across the state took part in the first day of the army recruitment rally organised by the 117th infantry battalion here on Monday.

The rally was organised to fill up a total of 59 vacancies in the infantry battalion. According to sources from the organising team, a majority of the aspirants consisted of engineers, diploma and other UG degree holders. The highest qualification required was completion of Class XII with 60% aggregate marks.


The vacancies included 57 positions for soldiers for general duty (eligibility of Class XII with minimum of 45% marks aggregate) and a post each for clerical soldier (eligibility of Class XII with minimum 60% marks) and for tradesman (washerman) (eligibility of Class X completion) each.


The rally began as early as 4am at the army training area in Mannarpuram. The candidates were first made to undergo height test following which certificate verification was done. After this process, the candidates were given physical tests including running, pull-ups and long jump. Finally, the candidates’ weight was tested. The selected candidates would be made to attend medical check-up from Tuesday till November 17. .


On Tuesday, candidates from across the country would be appearing and would undergo medical test from the subsequent day till November 17. After the medical check-up, the selected candidates would be given a date to write their written examination.
