Speed limit fixed in Trichy, violators to be fined

TRICHY: The Trichy district administration and the city police have fixed speed limits for vehicles plying on the roads here.

The speed limit for all vehicles plying in the city limits between 7am and 10pm has been fixed at 30 kmph. It is fixed at 40kmph between 10pm and 7am.

The district administration notified the speed limits a few days ago. It will not be applicable for ambulances, fire service vehicles and convoys of VIPs.

The city police said the permissible speed limit was fixed considering the volume of traffic here. Vehicles caught violating the speed limit would be punished under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 with a penalty ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000.

The move is meant to ensure the safety of road users.
