TRICHY: The proposed Tamil Nadu defence corridor, which is aimed at promoting local manufacturing of defence equipment will majorly boost Trichy, said state minister for industries M C Sampath here on Saturday.
He was speaking at a ‘Seminar on Investing’ event in Trichy, organised to create awareness about the ‘Global Investors Meet’, which is scheduled to be held in Chennai on January 23 and 24, 2019.

Sampath said the corridor would be created with Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Salem and Hosur serving as the major nodes. “Companies in and around Trichy that manufacture spare parts for defence equipment will benefit the most,” he said.

Speaking about other positive developments in the central region, Sampath spoke about how Sipcot’s industrial park in Pudukottai has been functioning well and how work for Sipcot’s industrial park in Manapparai is progressing at a good rate.

He also claimed that peaceful situation, good infrastructure, power supply without interruption and skilled manpower in the state have made it ideal for investing here.

Minister for rural industries, P Benjamin also spoke about the defence corridor and added that the expansion of Trichy International Airport would benefit the city. “The airport expansion would aid in improving the export of items like processed food items, cut flowers and other food items,” he said. Benjamin added that several efforts were being taken to improve the ease of doing business in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, responding to a woman from narikurava community’s request to provide stalls at Poompuhar and Co-optex for people from her community to displaying their works, Benjamin said he would discuss with chief minister and take necessary steps.
