Apathy on display as leaking roofs at Rly station inconvenience passengers

EVEN light showers can inconvenience passengers and visitors at Tiruchy Junction as the Rail-ways has not taken efforts to fix the leaking roofs. Several shop-keepers pointed out that the na-tional transporter has had a luke-warm approach to this issue for a long time. "They have set up a child assistance booth on Platform 1 but people cannot sit on the benches there if there is downpour. The railways should take more efforts to improve the basic amenities for passengers at the station," said a platform vendor. In fact, there are occasions where the Railways ignored the safety of workers and tried some repair works during heavy rain. But these efforts were often regarded as a cover-up for the embarrassing situation of leaky roofs. "They have to regularly repair the roofs at the station but the work should be avoided during heavy downpour. They should take it up on days when the skies are clear However, when there is no rain, the administration is not bothered about the broken roofs.

Some worried about the building's architecture There is also concern among the admirers of the station's architecture. The station's building is beautiful but you feel uncomfortable if you are visiting the station on a rainy day. In fact. this station Is very close to the Divisional Railway Manager's office. Still, the station did not receive the special attention of the top brass. Rather than improving the basic Infrastructure. the Railways placed a few boards with claims of litter-free platforms.100 percent LED fittings, plastic-bag free station and 60 per cent waste water recycling." said T N Ananthakrishnan, a passenger.

This lethargic attitude creates an embarrassing situation for them during the downpour," said a worker on condition of anonymity.  "The station's building is beautiful but you feel uncomfortable if you are visiting the station on a rainy day.
