Trichy: In order to cater to the Diwali rush of commuters the district administration jointly with city police and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will open two temporary bus shelters at Williams road and Mannarpuram which would be operational from Thursday and would function till November 11.

District administration said that temporary bus shelters at Williams road and Mannarpuram would be established and opened for public use from November 1. The temporary bus shelters will be in operation till November 11, it added.

Thanjavur and Nagapattinam bound buses would commence their journey from the temporary bus shelter in Williams road while Madurai and Pudukkottai bound buses would commence and end services at the temporary shelter in Mannarpuram, city police said.

“Located in the central part of the state, Trichy central bus stand is well connected to all the districts of the state with as many as 3,750 bus services per day. As the existing Central bus stand is inadequate to cater to the regular inflow of traffic it would be a hassle to handle the extra rush during festivals as people in families would be travelling to places,” an official said.

“Thus following suit to previous years the district administration has decided to set up the temporary bus terminals,” he added.

Officials also said that city buses would be operated in higher numbers to connect Mannarpuram temporary bus shelter to Central bus stand and Chathiram bus stand. As the Williams road bus shelter is located close to the Central bus stand, no exclusive special buses would be operated.
