TRICHY: The biomining project to reclaim the Smart Cities Mission: Ariyamangalam biomining project in Trichy gets technical nod has received the much-awaited technical sanction from the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration (CMA) under the Smart Cities Mission.
The Trichy Corporation has floated a tender to identify a suitable contractor for issuing a work order to launch the for Rs 49 crore project within the next two months.

Two mandatory nods -- administrative sanction and technical sanction -- are mandatory for any proposal under the smart city mission to begin. While the civic body earlier on September 14, 2018, obtained administrative sanction to pursue biomining project, technical sanction for reclaiming Ariyamangalam dump yard was received recently.

Based on a recent study carried out by NIT-Trichy, the urban local body here said waste for about 7.60 lakh cubic metre was dumped in the Ariyamangalam yard of the Trichy City Corporation.

Through biomining, as much as 35 acres out of 47.5 acres dump yard could be retrieved by the civic body by sending non-biodegradable waste to factories as reusable alternative fuel whereas the biodegradable waste shall be recycled as manure.

“On a daily basis, the Trichy Corporation followed the biomining proposal to avail the administrative and technical sanctions in a short span. Preliminary work for biomining could begin within the next two months,” corporation commissioner N Ravichandran told TOI.
