The kumbahishekam of the famous Arulmigu Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple at Tiruvanaikoil here will take place on December 9 and 12.

On December 9, the kumbabhishekam will be performed for the ‘Parivaara Murthis’ and ‘Vimanas’ between 7.30 a.m. and 8.15 a.m. The ‘balalayam’ for the ‘Parivaara Murthis’ inside the sprawling temple premises was done on Sunday.

On December 12, kumbhabhishekam for Sri Jambukeswarar and Sri Akilandeswari Amman at the temple and the gopurams would be performed after 7 a.m., according to a note from the temple authorities.

Ahead of the kumbhabhishekam, the ‘balalayam’ for Sri Jambukeswar and Sri Akilandeswari Amman would be done on December 9.

The yagasala poojas ahead of the kumbhabhishekam would commence on December 6 after 6.30 p.m. and would go on till December 12 morning. Many donors have contributed for the kumbhabhishekam which is to be held after a gap of 18 years.

The previous kumbhabhishekam was held in September 2000, said Mahalakshmi Subramanian, one of the major donors for the conduct of the upcoming holy event. The entire Kumbhabhishekam is to be organised with the cooperation of all, she added.

Situated between the Cauvery and the Coleroon river, the Sri Jambukeswarar Sri Akilandeswari Temple, which comes under the administration of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, is one of the ‘panchabootha sthalams’ representing ‘neer’ (water).

The Siva lingam at this temple is called as ‘Appu Linga’.

The temple was built by Emperor Kocengannan Chola more than 1,800 years ago and is one among the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, according to the shrine's website.
