The Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchi (IIM-T) has teamed up with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), University Grants Commission (UGC) and other IIMs to bring about a disruptive change in the higher education scenario towards ensuring societal impact of initiatives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

A memorandum of understanding recently signed by IIM-T with NAAC’s Research and Analysis Wing envisages quality management in higher education through use of scientific and mathematical models in research.

“We will carry out big data analytics to take the quality of education imparted through the 46,000 colleges and 900 universities to the next level,” IIM-T Director Bhimaraya Metri said.

Training programme

The IIM-T will shortly conduct a training programme for NAAC assessors on the ideal approach to evaluate the quality of higher education and determine the level of autonomy and partial autonomy of the institutions they assess.

On October 22-23, IIM-T will conduct a workshop on ‘Leadership in the era of disruptive world’ for 50 vice-chancellors across the country.

“The workshop will focus on aligning universities to the corporate world. The Chairman and Secretary of UGC will also address the vice-chancellors,” Mr. Metri said.

On October 31, a meeting of IIM directors at IIM-T will be conducted to discuss the ways in which the premier institutions can contribute to nation-building and reinforce their relevance to the locality, society, community and corporate world.

“We have invited Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javdekar to inaugurate the meeting, which has been funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research,” Mr. Metri said.
