In a not too distant future, parents will have a good reason to visit Indian Institute of Management - Tiruchi along with their children.

Perhaps, for the first time by an educational institution in Tamil Nadu, the IIM-T will be establishing a “hub-type library” for use by public, especially children, supporting the themes of health, well being and life skills. Incidentally, IIM-T will be the first among the IIMs in the country to have a library with a hub-vision, it is learnt.

Visit by the children to the library will be made a joyful experience through the creation of a play area, food plaza and gym.

The children can divide their time at the library between reading and relaxing through involvement in indoor games or craft activities. Children are bound to enjoy the informal atmosphere for knowledge enrichment, Librarian and Chief Knowledge Officer of IIM-T K. Elavazhagan said.

There will be no restriction on personal interaction also as there will be space for discussions, he noted. The library has to be ideally a happening place. Considering that the attention span is limited to a few minutes, the duration of the child’s stay in the library will be made fruitful through several activities, IIM-T Director Bhimaraya Metri said.

The work on establishing the model library has been initiated on the campus and the project is expected to be completed over the next few months.

There are only a handful of libraries in the country that offer a hub experience, but none functions out of an educational institution, sources said.

World over, the hub model of library has impressed parents as the children get help for their educational need alongside fun activities.
