E-learning tool to help students prep for exams

Trichy: A test-based analysis and learning tool to help students prepare for board exams in class 11 and 12 was launched for government schools by the Trichy district chief educational officer on Saturday. The e-learning analytical software called Tutor365 would help students identify their weak areas not only in subjects but also specific chapters, according to its creators, Ebek.

Chairman of Ebek language laboratories, G Sreekanthan, said the tool would keep teachers and parents in the loop while helping the students manage their weak areas. With a set of over 40,000 questions covering state board and CBSE syllabus, the tool has been designed to aid students in preparing for competitive examinations as well. “The focus of the tool is on building the knowledge of the students rather than preparing for competitive examinations. A proper analysis is required for students to know their weak and strong areas in academics,” said Sreekanthan. He said they had come across children who scored well in one exam but could not do well in another. This happened when students were weak in certain subjects or certain areas in a subject.

“This is where our cloud-based tool can come to their rescue,” he said adding that students could appear for test even in a specific chapter of a subject to test their knowledge. As soon as they finished the exam, a graphical report analysis would automatically go to the students and their parents. Students could also introspect on their own by knowing where things went wrong,” said Sreekanthan.

Pranav Siddharth, one of the two final year engineering students who developed the software, said the teachers who were already overburdened with work might find it difficult to know the weakness of every student. However, by making students appear for the test, they would get a fair idea about every student which would eventually help them channelize their energy and time properly.

Aradhya Khandelwal, his partner in the software development, said they had been working on a mobile application of the software. “Questions are designed separately for state board and CBSE students. Besides, the tool also offers a competitive package where students can take questions asked in competitive exams,” he said. While private schools will have to bear a nominal charge to gain access to the tool, it is offered free to government school students. Trichy district chief educational officer M Ramakrishnan, who launched the tool, said students weren’t anxious about board examinations.
