TRICHY: The Trichy city police have enhanced surveillance by installing 127 CCTV cameras in major commercial streets ahead of the Diwali season. A temporary police outpost and two control rooms were launched on the NSB Road near Rockfort on Friday to regulate vehicles going to the designated parking spaces and to avoid traffic bottlenecks.
Dotted with several textile outlets and commercial complexes, the NSB Road and other streets around the Rockfort hillock witness thousands of people daily during the Diwali season.

City police commissioner A Amalraj inaugurated the temporary police outpost near Theppakulam on Friday to ensure public safety in these commercial streets.

Simultaneously, a public address system is in operation at the Chathiram bus stand to alert people about suspicious elements in the area.

As many as 43 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the commercial streets -- Super Bazaar and Nandhikoil Street.

A total of 127 CCTV cameras will monitor the crowd movement along West Boulevard Road, Madurai Road and Jaffershah Street.

According to a city police source, footages from all 127 CCTV cameras will be monitored by personnel in two control rooms established near the NSB Road and Chathiram bus stand.


The entry of vehicles on the NSB Road and through Singarathope has been suspended till November 6.

A total of 784 cops, including armed reserve police, will be manning the commercial streets to regulate vehicular movement.
