175th year celebration of college begins tomorrow

‘Remember, Rejoice, Reach Out’ will be the theme of the 175th year celebration of St. Joseph’s College that will be inaugurated by Minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javdekar on October 5.

He will give a start to the year-long celebration by inaugurating the renovated Heritage Museum on the campus. The institution with over 7,000 students on rolls has lined up a variety of national and international seminars, conferences and workshops in the fields of education, arts and literature, culture, folk arts and spirituality.

A series of books on heritage, museum, intellectual, spiritual and human resource management and development, and in many other fields are to be released, College Rector Rev. Fr. Leonard Fernando told media persons.

Regional and national championship trophies are to be organised for school and college students and the staff of various colleges and schools.

A pilgrimage of staff, students and alumni will be taken to the birth place of the college at Nagapattinam. A torch run from there will culminate as a grand Marathon in Tiruchi, the Rector said.

The wish of starting St.Joseph’s Law College will be initiated on the occasion of the Dodransbicentennial celebrations, he said.
