Work to eliminate black spots on NH in full swing

OFFICIALS from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Thursday inspected progress in the construction of a flyover at Siruvachur Work on the Rs 115 crore project started in July. Siruvachur is among the seven black spots identified by NHAI in the central region, the others locat-ed on Virudhachalam Slip road, Shri Sarada Ashram, Pali, Asanur ,Siruvachur ,Veppur and Avail The NHAI allotted a total of Z80 crore towards eliminating the black spots. These include execution of major engineering works like underpasses and flyovers.

 Sources said the Siruvachur flyover is likely to be completed in 2019. "The construction of subways, vehicle underpasses and other engineering activity at the identified accident-prone areas will bring down the accidents. This apart, we are already taking the necessary measures for completing the project at the earliest," said sources. Residents of Siruvachur, mean-while, called upon the authorities to complete the project at the earliest so that fatalities could be avoid-ed. 'The NH-45 here needs a bridge to handle the heavy traffic  in this area. We are glad that they have started the bridge construction
