Trichy Corporation planning to develop two more vertical gardens

TRICHY: City’s first vertical garden is nearing completion on the pillars of the Palakkarai flyover, even as the civic body is planning to set up two more such gardens here. Officials plan to open the Palakkarai vertical garden and a walking track under the flyover in a week’s time.

Accessed by thousands, the area available under the arms of the Palakkarai flyover was underutilised and encroachment threats persisted with residents dumping waste.

As a solution, the Trichy City Corporation in June 2018 took up work on a 500-foot-long park equipped with a walking track at an estimated cost of Rs 32 lakh. The civic body says it is developing vertical gardens to flight pollution.

The corporation is planning vertical gardens at Palpannai junction and TVS tollgate junction.

“City beautification is an important component in star rating of cities. So we have plans to expand the presence of vertical gardens to project good perspective about Trichy among visitors,” corporation commissioner N Ravichandran said.
