At the bidding of Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), the Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries' Association (TIDITSSIA) has started organising awareness camps for youths at rural locations.

A day-long entrepreneurship awareness camp has been planned at Nehru Memorial College at Puthanampatti in Thuraiyur taluk later this month.

The first phase programme for those above 18 years of age is meant to provide information on the benefits of self-employment, entrepreneurship, selection of project, support available for potential entrepreneurs from government, banks and other financial institutions, and the schemes and policies of the State Government.

Last month, the same programme was conducted for youth in Musiri taluk.

Fifty youth among the participants have been identified for the next-level training.

Similar programmes have been planned at Kattur and other places, TIDITSSIA sources said.

The rural focus of EDII followed its selection as National Resource Organisation (NRO) by the Central Government for a four-year period from January 2016 to March 2020 for implementing entrepreneurship awareness programs in pilot blocks of select states with State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM).

The EDII is already into the process of implementing Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) in 24 blocks 11 states: Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, J&K, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and Punjab.

The expected outcome is creation of rural entrepreneurs by developing a sustainable model for Village Entrepreneurship Promotion through integrated ICT techniques and tools for training and capacity building and enterprise advisory services.
