The State government has sanctioned two Siddha and Ayurvedic hospitals and four Yoga and Naturopathy Wellness Centres in Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts.

While Thanthonrimalai and Arumbavur in Karur district have been selected for housing new Siddha and Ayurvedic hospitals, Yoga and Naturopathy Wellness Centres will come up at Kulithalai in Karur district, Musiri in Tiruchi district, Krishnapuram in Perambalur district and Jayankondam in Ariyalur district.

With the sanctioning of new hospitals and wellness centres, the total number of Siddha, Ayurvedic, Yoga and Naturapathy clinics in Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Karur districts will go up to 130 from 124.

Each Siddha and Ayurvedic hospital will have a doctor, a pharmacist and a multi-purpose worker. The wellness centres will be governed by a doctor, a female therapeutic assistant, a male therapeutic assistant and a hospital worker.

S. Kamaraj, Siddha Medical Officer, Tiruchi, told The Hindu that new posts had already been created by the State government. They would have to be recruited under the Tamil Nadu Medical Recruitment Board. The State and Central governments would bear 50% of the cost for creating necessary infrastructure for new hospitals and wellness centres.

While the Siddha and Ayurvedic hospitals would function on the premises of the Primary Health Centres at Thanthonrimalai and Arumbavur, the wellness centres would function on the premises of the existing Siddha hospitals.

Mr. Kamaraj said the recruitment process might take a few months.

However, it had been decided to start the new hospitals and wellness centres soon by deputing doctors and other staff members from the neighbouring hospitals.
