Number of voters comes down in Tiruchi district

The voters’ strength in the district has come down by about 16,060 since January this year as a special summary revision of electoral rolls, ordered by the Election Commission of India, began on Saturday.

As per the draft electoral roll released here during the day by Collector K. Rajamani, the district has 21,85,453 voters with 11,18,168 women, 10,67,105 men and 180 transgenders. As on January 10 this year, the voters strength in the district was 22,01,513. Of this, the names of as many as 21,716 voters were deleted from the rolls and 5,656 voters were included. Among the deleted names, 3,325 were repeat entries and the rest had either shifted or expired, according to the figures furnished by the Collector.

The Srirangam Assembly constituency has the maximum number of voters in the district with 2,88,684 electors, and Lalgudi has the least with 2,07,434 voters. Women outnumber men in all the nine constituencies.

Mr. Rajamani, who released the draft rolls in the presence of representatives of recognised political parties, said the voters’ list would be kept for public verification at all polling stations in the district. Persons who would attain the age of 18 on January 1, 2019, the qualifying date, could apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls by submitting Form 6 at the offices of the Electoral Registration Officers or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers.

Forms for deletion of names, corrections and shifting within a constituency can be submitted during the revision exercise. Applications can also be filed online throughwww.nvsp.inand the revision exercise will go on till October 31. The final electoral rolls would be published on January 4.

Booth-level agents, already appointed by political parties, can assist the Booth Level Officers in the revision exercise. However, a booth level agent of a party can submit a maximum of 10 applications a day and 30 during the entire summary revision, Mr. Rajamani said.
