Corpn extends deadline for short film contest

Trichy: Owing to requests from participants seeking an extension of deadline for submission of entries for short film and jingles contest promoting solid waste management practices, the Trichy Corporation has extended the same till September 27. The civic body said that cash prizes to the tune of Rs 50,000 will be given to the best entries emphasising the importance of public hygiene.

Earlier, the corporation in association with National College launched the contest, to encourage youngsters for fanning behavioural change among residents with September 20 as the deadline. However, as participants from various parts of the state sought more time, the corporation has extended it.

Bin-free Trichy, garbage-free Trichy, open defecation free Trichy, plastic-free Trichy and our waste our responsibility were the topics given for participants to submit jingles as well as short films for raising awareness. “Between September 28 and October 1, eminent persons in solid waste management and filmmaking will select the top three entries in both categories separately. Best entries will be screened on October 2, and subsequently cash prizes will be distributed,” an organiser said.

So far 60 entries have been received, organisers said and added that they are expecting the number to touch at least 100. Interested participants can register online at www.cleantrichy.com, and the same web page has to be used for submitting entries in formats complying with terms and conditions as mentioned in the website.
