Trains for Velankanni festival

Southern Railway will operate special DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) trains from Tiruchi to Velankanni and from Velankanni to Thanjavur to clear the extra rush of traffic during the Velankanni festival. The special trains will run from August 28 to September 8.

The Tiruchi - Velankanni DEMU special will leave Tiruchi at 10.20 p.m. and reach Velankanni at 3 a.m. It will stop at Tiruverambur, Budalur, Thanjavur, Nidamangalam, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Velankanni.

The Velankanni - Thanjavur DEMU special will leave Velankanni at 3.15 a.m. and reach Thanjavur 5.45 a.m. The train will stop at Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Nidamangalam.

A Southern Railway press release said the Karaikal - Thanjavur DEMU passenger (Train No. 76815) has been extended up to Tiruchi from August 28 to September 8 to clear the extra rush of traffic during Velankanni festival.

The Karaikal – Thanjavur DEMU passenger on arrival at Thanjavur will leave at 8. 55 p.m. and reach Tiruchi at 10.10 p.m. The train will also stop at Budalur and Nidamangalam, the release added.
