Amid recurring instances of property crimes getting reported, the Tiruchi Rural Police has put in place motorcycle patrolling system in all the five sub divisions in its limits to ensure visible policing and to prevent offences.

Around 80 field-level police personnel have been drafted exclusively for bike patrolling that has been executed in Manapparai, Musiri, Lalgudi, Jeeyapuram and Tiruverambur sub divisions. An array of 20 motorcycles belonging to the law enforcers would be utilised for this purpose to patrol designated spots.

The chosen police personnel to be part of the teams are in the rank of Constables and Head Constables besides a few Special Sub Inspectors.

The team members would work in three shifts in their respective jurisdiction.

Spots identified

Designated areas and vantage spots have been identified in each of the five sub divisions where the bike patrolling teams would keep moving armed with walkie-talkie sets.

The team members would also patrol desolate areas falling within their limits, said police authorities.

The main objective of constituting the teams is to provide visible policing in an effort to prevent offences, said the Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi, Ziaul Haque. The bike patrolling teams would be alerted to move to the crisis spot whenever their immediate intervention was required, said SP Ziaul Haque.

The system would be fine-tuned based on the response and feedbacks by augmenting more vehicles and manpower to carry out this task, he added.

Ahead of putting in place the system, the field-level personnel forming part of the teams were briefed about their assigned task, sources said.
