Steps taken to strengthen rail passengers’ safety: ADGP

Additional Director-General of Police (Railways) C. Sylendra Babu said here on Monday that surveillance cameras had been installed in all the major railway stations in the State to strengthen the safety of passengers.

Addressing media persons during his inspection of the Erode Railway Junction here on Monday, he said 90 women and 120 men police personnel were recruited and deployed to prevent crime on platforms and trains, and particularly to enhance security for women and children.

The ADGP said that surveillance cameras were fully operational in the railway stations in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Tiruchi, and in other important stations. He said that cameras would also be installed at Erode Railway Junction and all other stations soon. Mr. Babu said that effective monitoring helped prevent major crimes in railway stations. Only mobile phones theft were being reported, and steps were being taken to prevent it. The ADGP inspected the station and held discussions with Superintendent of Police S. Sakthi Ganesh and Erode Railway Police Inspector Sangeetha.
