The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has recommended the flexible curriculum framed by National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi (NIT-T) as a model for all NITs.

NIT-T has successfully implemented the flexible curriculum, minor specialisations, flipped classrooms based on course plans, and new evaluation models. “Students and parents are quite impressed with the new flexible curriculum. The reforms introduced in academic processes was in line with the world's top-class universities,” Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas said.

The National Board of Accreditation had recently accredited the MCA and MBA courses in NIT-T. The institute, ranked top among NITs, received the University of the Year award from FICCI in 2017, in recognition of the major academic transformation.

The NITT also ranks among the top institutions in terms of research publication. National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Government of India has ranked NIT-T as the 11th best technical institute in the country.

Having roped in 48 new faculty members from top universities, and promoting 131 faculty members internally, the NIT-T was hopeful of securing funding for high-end research projects from both government and private entities, Prof. Mini said.

In recognition of the role of alumni in facilitating collaborations for research and development activities in industry, research organisations and reputed universities, the NIT-T has formed the Alumni Institute Interaction Cell.
