Revives B. A. Public Administration programme after a year
The move by Bharathidasan University Constituent College, Srirangam, to revive its B.A. Public Administration programme, after a gap has raised eyebrows in higher education circles.

Before the handover of constituent colleges to the higher education department for their conversion into government colleges, Vice-Chancellors were instructed by the Higher Education Department to follow instructions on three aspects: no introduction of new courses, status quo on designation of staff, and collection of only government fee in the constituent colleges.

The B.A. Public Administration course was discontinued last academic year as there was no patronage. However, this year, students who have not secured seats in other courses have evinced interest in joining the Public Administration course and hence they have been called for admission on Monday, after securing the permission of the university, College Principal N. Rajaraman claimed, adding: “We are only reviving an already affiliated course.”

When contacted, Vice-Chancellor P. Manisankar said he had not given consent for re-start of B.A. Public Administration programme.

Start of any additional program this academic year without the concurrence of the university and the higher education department would invite action, the Vice-Chancellor cautioned.
