Courier ops at airport likely to start in August

THE four-year long wait for courier operations at the air-port is expected to end soon as the airport has readied the infrastructure. "We have almost finished putting in place infra-structure necessary to start courier operations. We expect to launch operations by Au-gust," said sources. The airport has submitted a request to Airports Authority of India (AM) for installment of electronic clearance system for courier operations at the airport.

 Air courier details are up-loaded to the central server through a highly secured line. According to experts, this high-ly secured electronic clearance software is worth more than tl crore. So, this airport managed by AAI needs its approval for the purchase and installation of this secured facility . "Every month this airport is handling more than a cargo operation of more than 400 tonnes. So, the courier operation will also be successful. We are sure that AAI would take necessary steps," said N Kumat a courier operator.
