Complete kudimaramathu work before onset of monsoon

Darez Ahamed, Monitoring Officer, on Wednesday directed the officials to expedite the kudimaramathu works so as to complete them before the onset of monsoon.

Inspecting the progress of works, along with Collector T. Rajamani, at Srirama Samudram near Thottiam, Mr. Ahamed said the State government had sanctioned Rs. 329 crore to carry out desilting works in 28 districts including Tiruchi, Karur, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam. As many as 1511 works had been taken up under kudimaramathu works.

In Tiruchi district, a sum of Rs. 9.67 crore has been apportioned to Tiruchi district for the current year. As many as 65 works have been selected in Tiruchi district for carrying out kudimaramathu this year. A sum of Rs. 2.5 crore had been earmarked to Karur district.

Mr. Ahamed said that works such as silt accumulation, deepening of water spread areas and strengthening of bunds were being taken up.

Similarly, strengthening and reconstruction of surplus weirs and sluices have been taken up.

He said that it was important for officials to involve farmers and farmers’ organisations (ayacutars) of respective tanks. The works should be completed before the cultivation season. Officials should ensure transparency.
