Trichy integrated market: Agri marketing department begins shops allotment process

City’s much-awaited move aimed at decongesting the Gandhi Market locality by shifting a section of wholesale traders to the new integrated vegetable market in Kallikudi got a shot in the arm on Tuesday. The agriculture marketing and agriculture business department commenced the computerised lot process to allot shops for at least 200 traders identified to occupy the new facility in first phase.


Acknowledging that the reception among existing traders to relocate their business to Kallikudi market complex was overwhelming, officials said about 200 wholesale traders will be moved to the ground floor of new 9.79acre facility in the integrated market inaugurated in 2017.
Subsequently in the second phase, the department and the district administration eye to relocate 100 other existing traders in the congested Gandhi Market.
“We have initiated the process to allot shop number and respective blocks to the traders whose applications were selected by the scrutiny committee. The response to relocate was high particularly among English and country vegetables traders,” an official with agriculture marketing department told TOI.
The allotment process is expected to conclude on Tuesday evening post which the identified traders who were allocated with shops will be asked to enter an agreement with the marketing department for renting the shops for tenure of one year. The registration process for the identified traders allotted with shops is likely to conclude by June 15.
