Claiming that the smart city proposals have been expedited within a year after being included in smart city mission, Trichy Corporation has said that at least four proposals will see light of the day in a couple of months. Stating that all the 18 proposals are making steady progress with Detailed Project Report (DPR) completed for a few and periodical interactions with identified consultants underway, the urban local body (ULB) here said that the constraints involved in implementing the projects are being solved gradually.
Among the 18 proposals, official sources with Trichy Corporation said that works for smart parks, smart roads, smart classroom, and conversion of lights to LED are in the final phase of implementation. The other major proposals including multi-level car parking in West Boulevard Road, redevelopment of Chathiram bus stand, river front development near Ammamandapam, redevelopment of Gandhi Market, and heritage tourism development near Rockfort temple are being analysed by the consultants identified to study the potential.

"Surveys are in progress to understand the volume of vehicles that may use the MLCP and the passenger handling capacity of Chathiram bus stand. Regular interaction are being organised with consultants to suggest innovative ideas," the senior corporation official added. Under public-private partnership (PPP) mode, the civic body has identified 52 bus shelters in the Area Based Development (ABD) jurisdiction to be overhauled and beautified in compliance with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) guidelines.

"For river front development proposal, we are in discussion with the Public Works Department (PWD) officials in the presence of consultants to beautify the Cauvery banks," the corporation official added. In renewable energy generation, Trichy Corporation said that proposals are being prepared to promote solar power generation in corporation and government offices falling under ABD. Since the city is known for heritage tourism with iconic temples including Sri Ranganathswamy temple in Srirangam and Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswarar temple, corporation sources said that a separate bus facility to tour the heritage sites has been planned to encourage tourism.
