Tiruchi railway division carried 3. 78 crore passengers last fiscal

The Tiruchi railway division carried more passengers in the 2017-18 fiscal compared to the previous financial year, Divisional Railway Manager P. Uday Kumar Reddy said.

The division carried 3.78 crore passengers in 2017-18, compared to 3.66 crore in the previous year, thereby registering an increase of 3.28 %, he said. Speaking at the 63rd Railway Week celebration here on Friday, Mr. Reddy said the originating passenger earnings of the division was Rs. 322.36 crore in 2017-18, witnessing a rise of 7.37 % , compared to the previous year.

The performance on the safety front was also good. Constant endeavours were being made to refresh the staff connected with train operations with latest rules and procedures. As many as 57 unmanned level crossings had been eliminated in the last fiscal by converted them either into manned or through provision of limited use subway besides closing some others.

The Tiruchi division had bagged the Runners Up Inter-Divisional Overall Efficiency Shield jointly with Salem division. The shield was given by Southern Railway General Manager R.K. Kulshreshtha during the Railway Week celebration in Chennai recently.

Mr. Reddy distributed awards to divisional officers and staff for their meritorious service on the occasion.

A cultural programme was conducted.
