Education Meet-2018, the annual meet hosted by the Department of Educational Technology, Bharathidasan University, recently provided a platform for prospective teachers across the State to share good practices in promoting quality in teacher education.

Teachers from 20 colleges of education took part in quiz and other competitions during the meeting focussing on recent developments in teaching, research and extension.

The meeting was an attempt at popularising concept and applications of educational technology, across all disciplines at all levels of teaching and learning, through teacher education, research and extension,

E. Ramganesh, Chair, School of Education, Bharathidasan University, said the objective was to provide a platform for the prospective teachers to explore further avenues in higher education career. This could be done through networking and interaction.

The meet was inaugurated by N. Seshadri, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, SASTRA Deemed to be University Thanjavur.

Addressing the valedictory session, G. Gopinath, Registrar, Bharathidasan University gave away the citation and cash award to the winners of the Lesson Plan and Micro-teaching competitions.

Despite new thrusts, the system still prepares teachers who do not necessarily become professionally competent and committed at the completion of the initial teacher preparation programmes.

There exists a wide gap between theory and knowledge and skills of teaching required in the actual classroom curriculum transaction, he pointed out.
