In a bid to beautify the city by involving private players, the Tiruchi Corporation has permitted the Tiruchi chapter of Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (CREDAI) to provide landscaping of the central median at Anna Nagar in Thennur.

Upon receiving permission, the CREDAI has employed its men and machines to prepare the surface of the central median from Anna Nagar link road to Ukkiramakaliamman Temple.

As per the plan, landscaping will be carried out on 16,800 square feet for a length of 1300 feet. Besides planting of flowering plants, the area will have three lines of limited height tree plants. It will also have ground cover plants to enrich the soil. Besides developing it, the CREDAI will take care of periodic maintenance too.

Corporation Commissioner Cum Special Officer N. Ravichandran told The Hindu that the CREDAI had promised to employ its resources to make the proposed area as one of the best model spots.

The central median would be provided with plants and a ground cover that were drought tolerant. It would make the entire median space lush green and attractive.

P. Ravichandran, president, CREDAI, Tiruchi, said that the association was happy in associating with the Tiruchi Corporation in executing the landscaping project at an estimate of Rs. 5 lakh.

The plants, trees, shrubs, grass and ground cover plants would be irrigated under drip irrigation technology. Water would be sourced from the neighbouring science park.

B. Senthil Kumar, Chairman, Corporate Social Responsibility, CREDAI, Tiruchi, said that anti-termite formula would be adopted to prevent termites.

Provision would also be made to protect the plants with tree guards.

Corporation Commissioner said that the Corporation was committed to beautifying the central medians across the city, wherever it was possible.

It would encourage public forums, private entities and self interested persons to take up landscaping projects.
