Festember 2018 - festival in September, at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi (NIT-T) may be months away, but students have already started activities that would make the event more meaningful.

Having thought it fit to extend a social dimension to the event, the students on Friday christened their outreach activity at the Rehabilitation Centre for Blind Women at Mannarpuram as Festember Social Responsibility (FSR).

A group of NIT-T spent a substantial part of the day with the inmates of the Centre teaching them basic programming in computer. The inmates were oriented on what the computer is about and what keyboard basics are.

“The NIT-T volunteers helped them with controls (on the keyboard),” P.K. Rohit, Head, Media Relations, Festember.

The students also spent time helping out the inmates to form shapes out of clay, much to the excitement of the latter, he said.

The hosts and the guests also had some entertaining moments, singing some Tamil cinema songs together.

The students have decided to retain their association with the Centre. They will be updating the Centre's website soon.
