DefExpo 2018: industries book stalls

At least five industries from Tiruchi district have planned to put up stalls in the Tamil Nadu Pavilion during the Defence Expo from April 11 to 14 at Tiruvidanthal, Kancheepuramdistrict along the East Coast Road near Chennai.

Several members of Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries' Association and BHEL Small Scale Industries' Association have registered online and obtained passes to take part in the expo being held in Chennai for the first time.

Members of TIDITSSIA will be taking part in the expo in groups on different days, its Secretary S. Punniyamoorthy said.

The purpose of DefExpo 2018 is to showcase India as a major hub of defence production in the world. The tagline for the expo is ‘India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’.

While showcasing the strength of India’s substantial public sector, it will also uncover India’s growing private industry and the strength of MSME base for components and sub-systems. The members BHELSIA will take part in the deliberations to gauge the ways to adapt the eco-system suiting requirements arising from the proposed defence corridor project, its president S. Ashok Sundaresan said.

The delegations of the two industry organisations expect to gather rich insights since the DefExpo 2018 feature Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd’s various flying platforms including domestically designed and manufactured fourth-generation Light CombatAircraft (LCA) - Tejas; Advanced Light Helicopter - Dhruv; Light Combat Helicopter; and Dornier civilian aircraft for which DGCA clearance was received and which is likely to be inducted for regional connectivity purposes.

As regards land systems, the indigenously developed 155mm Advanced Towed Artillery Gun (ATAG) will be on display along with Bridge Laying Tanks (BLTs) with a span of over 70 feet and other products. India will also showcase its missile and rocket manufacturing capabilities, including BrahMos missiles available for all kind of attacks including surface-to-air, air-to-air and sea-to-air.
