Expanding the coverage of decentralised waste collection and segregation, Trichy Corporation on Thursday inaugurated its 25th micro compost centre at Kallangadu. With the new addition to the existing 24 micro compost centres, the civic body took an unassailable lead among other civic bodies in the state to have more number of operational decentralised waste management practices at place.
“As many as 44 streets in wards 51 and 54 will be covered under the new micro compost centre. At least 25,000 people will be ensured with door-to-door waste collection each day and degradable waste will be recycled into compost at this facility,” a corporation official said. Inaugurating the facility, corporation commissioner N Ravichandran said that wastes from 4,509 houses and 552 commercial establishments will be processed at the new facility from Thursday. TNN
