After TOI reported that residents wanted the Trichy Corporation to open drinking water distribution outlets, the civic body on Tuesday opened a water and buttermilk distribution outlet on the Thennur road falling under ward 50.
Officials said they expected that at least 1,200 people per distribution outlet will benefit from the initiative, being followed since 2016.

As the mercury levels in the city had been soaring between 34 degree Celsius and 36 degree Celsius for the past few weeks, pedestrians and commuters were facing a tough time bracing the hot weather. The civic body opened water distribution outlets in the last five years while it opened buttermilk distribution centres in the past two years. People wanted the corporation to open the distribution outlets this year also.
On March 20, TOI reported that a published a story headlined “City residents ask corporation to open drinking water outlets.”

“A plan to open water and buttermilk distribution outlets across the city by the first week of April was on cards,” Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran told TOI.
Officials said nine more distribution points would be opened across the four zones in the next few days.
