Take to entrepreneurship, graduates of IIM-Tiruchi told




Entrepreneurship has assumed huge significance in the backdrop of increase in global demand for new kinds of employable skills, K. P. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, told students of the Indian Institute of Management - Tiruchi on Saturday.

IIMs signal a level of quality to the market to command a skill-wage premium, he said, addressing the sixth annual convocation ceremony. The degree combines the practical and theoretical knowledge and signifies excellence to the outside world, he said.

To succeed in a business world, one needs strong EQ, leadership, the ability to inspire people and passion, CK Ranganathan, Chairman and Managing Director, CavinKare, the Guest of Honour for the convocation, said. Students should count their success in terms of the number of people they have impacted or helped to grow in life, he said.

Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM-Tiruchi, Jalaj Dani, in his address, complimented the government for conceptualising the framework for granting autonomy to IIMs. “Autonomy will infuse a sense of competition in terms of pedagogical innovation, research, academic and industry cooperation and benefit from the ministry’s overall guidance and support”, he said. Mr. Dani awarded diplomas to one graduate from the Fellow Programme in Management, 176 graduates of Postgraduate Programme in Management (PGP) and 18 graduates of the Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM). Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM-Tiruchi, said a total of 95 companies participated in summer placements for the PGP 2017-19 batch this year. The Fellow Programme in Management, a full time residential doctoral, was launched in 2012, and the first student of the batch was awarded the degree on Saturday.
