Buoyancy in tourism sector likely

Image result for trichy tourism

In the wake of Jet Airways connecting Tiruchi with Mumbai and Delhi, the Tiruchi Travel Federation (TTF) is hopeful of the Tiruchi airport transforming into a transit point for tourists bound for pilgrim towns of Velankanni and Karaikal, what with other private airlines evincing interest to operate flights from here to Bengaluru and Hyderabad as well in the coming months.

The uniqueness of Tiruchi airport has been that it was the only non-metro airport patronised well for flights to foreign destinations. Since Chennai was the only domestic destination connected to Tiruchi, the tourist patronage was not up to the mark.

“Within a month or so when the information reaches air travellers in other parts of the country, there will be a steady flow of passengers seeking to visit Srirangam and other places of pilgrim importance in Tiruchi and other districts. There is a lot of tourism potential to be tapped in Tiruchi district,” says the joint secretary of Tiruchi Travel Federation S.A. Mubashir.

A majority of tourists to Velankanni, for instance, have been from Kerala. The improved domestic connectivity will draw tourists from the other States to the pilgrim towns of Velankanni and Karaikal, he said.

The TTF had presented a detailed profile of Tiruchi highlighting the strength in diverse areas including industry, education, health and tourism to private airlines.

Improvements in domestic connectivity will benefit the BHEL and other industries in the region. Such a connectivity has been a long-felt need of national-level educational institutions: Indian Institute of Management - Tiruchi, National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi, and Tamil Nadu National Law University in Tiruchi, Central University of Tamil Nadu in Tiruvarur, and other leading institutions including Bharathidasan University and SASTRA Deemed University.

These institutions are certain that the profile of national and international events they organise all through the year will witness a rise since there will be participants of high-calibre.
