Encroachers at Tiruverumbur station to be served notices

The railway authorities have planned to serve eviction notices on encroachers along the route to the Adarsh Status Railway Station at Tiruverumbur.

Encroachments on the path to a distance of about 200 metres from the Tiruchi-Thanjavur Highway entirely blocks the view of the newly constructed station for which patronage is expected to grow manifold in the wake of the completion of Tiruchi-Thanjavur track doubling project. The mandatory inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety is also over on this stretch.

The narrow path obstructs two-way movement of four-wheelers, and is already an irritant for regular passengers using the station for passenger trains. Patronage for the train is expected to grow manifold when stoppages are announced for long-distance express trains.

The station, featuring PRS (Passenger Reservation System), toilet, catering service and waiting room, serves residents of Tiruverumbur, BHEL township, Ordnance Factory Estate, HAPP, Thuvakudi and Kattur, is currently a stopping point only for Mayiladuthurai-Mysuru Express and passenger trains bound for Karaikal, Nagore, Thanjavur.

Stoppage of express trains to Ernakulam, Chennai and Coimbatore will be of immense utility, regular passengers say. The changes will be made in the next time table, official sources said.

Tiruchi MP M.P. Kumar has already represented the persisting demand of the public to railway authorities.
