Trichy central library to get Rs 50 lakh infrastructure boost

A new multipurpose hall will be raised at the central library on the WB road at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. The new facility would be built with funds from National Mission on Libraries (NML), informed tourism minister Vellaimandi N Natarajan as part of the Library day celebration on Sunday.
The new facility to come up at the second floor of the main building would help decongest the library by providing space for conference hall.
The room allocated for reading dailies and weeklies in the ground floor is temporarily used as the conference hall. Once the hall is ready, meetings would be conducted there, preventing any disturbance to other readers in the library.


Facilities have been made available at the central library for people from all sections, especially for those preparing for competitive examination and those doing higher studies. Speaking at the event, district collector K Rajamani said that the library is one of best in the state. He urged students to make the best use of it to prepare for competitive examinations.
He also said that steps were being taken to shift the library at Thiruverumbur to a new building, from the existing building which is in a poor condition.
Backward class and minority welfare minister S Valarmathi while briefing on the facilities at the library, said that the idea of the library week celebration is to create awareness among people to read books and improve their knowledge.
District library officer A P Siva Kumar said that steps are being taken to digitalise the library and provide more facilities through IT intervention. He said that the library staffs are also being trained on the usage of e-contents.
