Construction of science park gathers pace, set for Jan launch



THE construction works of the Science Park in Tiruchy has reached halfway and is expected to be complete by January 2018. "The project, under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Ur-ban Development (AMRUT), wil I add to the 'scientific dimension' of our city, after completion. We are hoping to finish the work by January 2018 and add it to the list of important places to visit, in the city," said S Amudhavalli," City Engineer, Tiruchy Corporation. The Science Park, which is the first of its kind in the City, is being constructed on a 2.62 acres land beside Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Vidyalaya High School, opposite to Ukkira Makacaliamman Temple in Anna Nagar, in the 50 th wardof K Abhishekapuram.

The work was allotted to Srivari Constructions in September 2016. The senior officials are keen on completing the work before 'Swachh Survekshan 2018', an annual survey for the list of cleanest cities in India. The expenditure for the construction is being shared among three administrative bodies; 50 percent is borne by the Union Government, 30 % by the State Government and 20 % by the Tiruchy Corporation, splitting the total estimate of at least Rs 2.14 crores.

Two of the most important features of the Science Park indude, 'Hall of Science' - which is over 2013 square feet and an open-air auditorium with a seating capacity for 200 persons to facilitate conduct of Science exhibitions. At least 20 scientific equipment will be procured for the facility. Other features include a pedestrian pathway for 550 meters, a lawn covering 9500 sq ft and an artificial dancing fountain. The park will also include a plantation of 2695 saplings of trees and plants and feature at least 11 children's rides. The amenities include a 16 meter tall 'Mast Lamp Post' with 5 LED lamps and 12 ornamental lamps. A parking area has also been planned in the premises.
