Picnickers visiting Mukkombu (Upper Anicut) in the outskirts of the city could look forward to better amusement avenues as Collector K. Rajamani has said that some of the amenities at the park which were in disuse would be brought into use shortly.

“The toy train, artificial fountain and pleasure boat ride on an artificial pond would be brought into use immediately,” Mr. Rajamani said after an inspection of the spot on Wednesday.

Situated about 15 km from the city, Mukkombu, from where the Coleroon river originates, is the only picnic spot for city residents.

Some of the tourists passing by Tiruchi also visit the spot.

However, for the past few years the toy rain, the boat rides and the artificial fountain have been lying idle and in disuse much to the disappointment of visitors.

Accompanied by officials of the Public Works Department, which maintains the regulator and park inside Mukkombu, and Tourism Department, Mr. Rajamani instructed the officials to bring the amenities into public use immediately.

He directed the officials to acquire two more boats for the pleasure boating service.

Besides, he told the officials to create a swimming pool, build a toilet for men and lay out pathways and lawns inside the park.

Mr. Rajamani also instructed the officials to ensure that basic amenities such as drinking water supply, toilets and proper lighting were ensured right through the day
