Prime business areas under enhanced vigil ahead of Deepavali

Commercial hotspots and prime business areas in Fort and Gandhi Market areas in the city have been brought under enhanced security and surveillance in connection with the Deepavali festival.

The police have put in place a detailed security plan exclusively for the festival at the business centres to thwart crimes and prevent untoward incidents.

Cameras have been deployed as manpower multipliers to mount round-the-clock vigil at chosen business spots.

A special police outpost has been opened at NSB Road – Nandhikovil Street junction equipped with screens to monitor the movements.

On Friday, Police Commissioner A. Arun inaugurated the special outpost. Separate teams of police personnel to maintain law and order and prevent crimes, besides regulating vehicular movements, have been mobilised.

A police press release said arrangements have been made for establishing eight watch towers at vantage spots including Main Guard Gate, NSB Road – Big Bazaar street Junction, Gandhi Market Arch, Singarathope and Anjuman Bazaar Junction.

Police would be deployed atop the watchtower equipped with binoculars to monitor movement of anti-socials.

A total of 94 surveillance cameras have been deployed in Main Guard gate and its vicinity, Chathram bus stand and Singarathope. Seven anti-sabotage teams would be deployed at specified spots.

In addition, members of the Home Guards have been roped in to assist the law enforcers in maintenance of law and order, prevention of crimes and regulating vehicular movements.

Dedicated parking lots have been identified near Main Guard Gate, besides at Yanaikulam ground and Super Bazaar for parking of two-wheelers and four-wheelers, the release added.
