School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Tuesday said that the new syllabi that the government and the specially appointed committee have been working on will be released by November 15.

After its release, the government will elicit the opinion of the public over a 15-day period, he added.

The syllabi will incorporate the State’s culture, tradition and heritage and will equip students to excel in competitive examinations and guarantee employment, Mr. Sengottaiyan told media persons. The content will be finalised after factoring in the suggestions from the public, he said. The government is also planning to issue ‘smart cards’ to students featuring their blood group, Aadhaar number, family card number, and name and address.

Smart classrooms

The work on the construction of smart classrooms in schools would commence next month, he said, adding that efforts were being made to rope in private players for the construction of 10,000 toilets in government schools. Areas adjoining schools were also being cleaned up as a preventive measure against dengue, Mr. Sengottaiyan said.
