Cancer can be conquered: Gautami



Narrating her fight against cancer, actor Gautami Tadimalla on Sunday drove home the need for spreading greater awareness about the disease affecting several women.

Addressing a “Conquerors Meet” attended by breast cancer survivors and their families, Ms. Gautami called upon the participants to spread the message on ways to conquer the disease.

The meeting was organised by the Dr. K. Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation and Dr. Viswanathan Hospitals.

“You have experienced the disease and now you are ready to convey the message to the world that cancer can be conquered”, Ms. Gautami told the breast cancer survivors and their families.

Stating that cancer could be won, Ms. Gautami called upon the participants to do their bit in spreading awareness by narrating their experience and how happy they were now after fighting the disease in family gatherings and to neighbours.

“We can save a lot of lives by sharing this experience”, Ms. Gautami said advocating the need to keep spreading the message to the society in a sustained manner.

“All of us have to join together and act like an army in taking forward this message to the society as we (breast cancer survivors) alone have undergone the experience”, said Ms. Gautami, also the founder of Life Again Foundation.

“Sharing our experience and the ways to conquer the disease would be the greatest service rendered by us to the society”, Ms. Gautami told the participants.

K. Meena, former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University said women’s health was very important for societal development.

K. Govindaraj, founder of Dr. K. Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation and Director of G. Viswanathan Speciality Hospitals, Tiruchi, said the foundation would be happy to partner with Life Again Foundation in spreading awareness about breast cancer and ways to conquer it.

B. Yamuna Devi, Additional Commissioner (Service Tax II), Mumbai and Dr. S. Jagadeesh Chandra Bose, Head, Department of Surgical Oncology, SRMC, Chennai spoke on the occasion.

Earlier in the day, a ‘Mammorun’ – a breast cancer awareness marathon was organised in the city jointly by the Dr. Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation, Dr. G. Viswanathan Hospitals, Life Again Foundation and Rotary District 2000. The event was organised in two categories - a 21.1 km run and a five km run.
