Award for Musiri college teacher for her work in unearthing temple inscriptions



R. Akila, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Arignar Anna Government Arts College, Musiri, was presented with Eminent Epigraphist Award by Dr. M. Rajamanikkanar Centre for Historical Research.

R. Kalaikkovan, Director of the Centre, presented the award to Dr. Akila at a function held at the college on Wednesday. The award was given under the Dr. S. Palaniyandi Endowment instituted at the centre, he said.

She was given the award in recognition of her extensive work in unearthing and copying inscriptions at various temples.

Delivering the K. R. Srinivasan Memorial Lecture, Ms. Akila explained in detail the architectural, sculptural and epigraphical nuances of the temples at Pachil, a village near Mannachanallur in Tiruchi district. Post-graduate students of history R. Revathi, T. Kokila, P.Tamilarasan and K. Madhubala were presented with mementos for their academic excellence by S. Palaniyandi, former President, Indian Medical Association, Tiruchi.
