The Young Indians of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tiruchi Zone, is looking forward to broad-basing its entrepreneurship promotion activities it has been conducting for college youth in the district.

Yi, Tiruchi, has so far initiated YUVA, student chapters, in seven institutions, and has been exposing the students to vital facets of entrepreneurship through YuTry - the annual entrepreneurship conference and start-up competitions, and Blue Ocean Dialogue, to train prospective entrepreneurs to think differently in order to come up with original business ideas, John Ashok Varadarajan, Chair, Yi Tiruchi Chapter, said.

Incubation centres

“Though there is no incubation apparatus in Tiruchi for arriving at prototypes of the business ideas unlike in Chennai and Coimbatore, the Yi has been trying to link those coming up with promising project plans to incubation centres and venture capitalists,” Mr. John Ashok said.

The Blue Ocean Dialogue was conducted last month to orient participants on product innovation and process re-engineering.

Successful entrepreneurs from Mumbai and other cities exposed them to the mentoring support systems and venture capital funding.

The objective of the Blue Ocean Dialogue was to get the students to identify unexplored white spaces in a market, and conceptualise a products or services they feel should be there but is non existent.

Subsequently, the students are given the basic skills to filter the ideas and put them to practice.

Promising entrepreneurs are also equipped to evaluate key certainties and uncertainties that will affect the success of the innovation being proposed, and exposed to key differentiators, key success factors and possible reasons for failure, Mr John Ashok said.

The key takeaways of the Blue Ocean Dialogue were elementary learning within the areas of business history, strategy, innovation, new product development, macro environment scanning, futurology and economics.

Likewise, the YuTry is being conducted as a platform for entrepreneurship-promotion and generation of start-up ideas.

Angel network funding and mentoring support is extended to good business models, he said.

One prospective entrepreneur was linked to the incubation centre run by IIM - Bangalore, for developing an idea into a prototype, Mr. John Ashok said.
