This library also offers English proficiency coaching

In an attempt to help those preparing for competitive examinations to gain proficiency in English language, the District Central Library in association with its Readers Forum has launched a special coaching programme on Sundays.

“This is in continuation of our efforts to organise need-based programmes for the youth. Youngsters who are preparing for competitive examinations using the resources at our library felt that they need to improve their proficiency in English, in terms of writing and also communication skills. Hence, we have organised this programme,” District Library Officer A. P. Sivakumar told The Hindu .

The two-hour sessions are held from 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

The classes, which began this Sunday, are being handled by Ila.Ganesan, a retired Railway official and executive member of the Readers Forum of the library.

Mr. Sivakumar indicated that youth who are interested in participating in the coaching can approach the library authorities.

On Monday, the library, in association with Viswa School of Banking, launched a coaching programme for candidates appearing for the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection examination. The classes would be held on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m., Mr. Sivakumar said.

Besides, the library has also launched a free chess coaching class for children below the age of 10.

The two-hour coaching sessions, held from 11 a.m. on Sundays, are handled by M. Iravatham, joint secretary, Tiruchi District Chess Association.

All the initiatives have drawn a good response, library officials said.
