Steps to improve amenities at tourism spots: Minister


World Tourism Day was observed with gaiety in the city on Wednesday with the Department of Tourism organising a rally and cultural shows to showcase the tourism potential of the region.

Tourism Minister Vellamandi N.Natarajan flagged of a rally near Central Bus Stand in the city in the presence of S.Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, V.Palanikumar, Commissioner, Tourism, and K.Rajamani, Collector. While students sought to project the importance of promoting tourism, groups of artistes showcased folk arts such as ‘karagattam,’ and ‘thappattam.’

A big cultural show with an array of performances by classical and folk artistes was held later in the evening at the K.A.P.Viswanatham Government Medical College campus. Tourism Minister observed that Tamil Nadu had topped the country in attracting tourist arrivals from 2014 to 2016. The Department was taking all necessary steps to improve amenities at tourist destinations. He said a proposal would be drawn up for developing amusement avenues along the Cauvery between Kambarasampettai and Tiruchi. A spiritual tourism circuit would be developed covering 108 Amman temples for devotees to visit during the month of Aadi.
