Engineers discuss their role in nation’s economic progress

The availability of qualified engineers in abundance was a key factor for the country's development, R.A. Krishnakumar, Executive Director, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd, Dalmiapuram, said, while addressing the birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, organised recently by the Tiruchi Local Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India).

Speaking on 'Role of Engineers in a Developing India', Mr. Krishnakumar said there was a steady supply of qualified technical manpower for manufacturing sector.

The 'Make in India' slogan indicates the confidence Prime Minister Narendra Modi has on engineers' capability, he said, specifying their role in infrastructure development. All the same, sufficient care must be taken with respect to environment and sustainability of the design of the product and manufacturing processes, he said.

“We should continuously update our knowledge, empower the youngsters and should be ready for digital revolution in engineering," Mr. Krishnakumar emphasised.

R. Rajamanohar, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi, was presented with the Best Engineer Award 2017.

Presiding over, J. Sankaran, former Executive Director, BHEL, Visakhapatnam, stressed the importance of ethics while rendering services, as also quality consciousness.

Chairman of the Tiruchi Centre, R. Selvaraj, was among those who spoke at the function.
