Damaged roads in Tiruchi to be relaid

The State government has sanctioned Rs. 7 crore for relaying arterial roads and heavily damaged roads in the city.

N. Ravichandran, Special Officer and Corporation Commissioner, said the government had released the fund and a survey was under way to finalise the roads to be relaid.

Besides heavily damaged roads, all important roads and the ones which were relaid five years ago would be included in the list. Mr. Ravichandran said that it had been decided not to include roads where underground drainage and water supply schemes had been taken up. Instruction to this effect had been given to the officials who were finalising the list.

Besides, a proposal would be sent to the State government, seeking funds for relaying roads in residential areas and interior places. The preparatory work and tender process would start soon. The work would be taken up after taking into account north-east monsoon which is likely to set in third or fourth week of October.
