Academy-industry interface facility opened in college



A Centre for Academy-Industry Interface (CAII) was opened at the Holy Cross College on Friday, in fulfilment of the emphasis on this aspect made in the National Policy on Education.

The college has mandated the CAII with bringing about mutually beneficial interaction between the two sides, for fostering and sustaining innovation. The activities will range from consultations and visits to researches.

Launching the CAII in the presence of the Principal Sr. A. Christina Bridget, Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Santhosh Babu urged the students to concentrate on developing their skills, saying that rather than academic qualifications, the niche expertise was what would would stand them in good stead in future. The trend of skill focus was quite prevalent developed countries, Mr. Babu said, calling upon the students to upgrade their skills to world-class standards.

A. Sarvesan, Head-CSR, Strides Shasun, Puducherry, and Aswin Kumar, Regional Manager, Dalmia Bharat Foundation, also motivated students to sharpen expertise in areas of their aptitude.

Coordinator of CAII, Antony Stephen, Assistant Professor, said the Centre would generate resources from industry, government bodies and private organisations in the forms of supported research, projects, sharing of entrepreneurial experience and consultancy programmes.

Alongside designing the course curriculum and conducting other value- added programmes based on industry requirements and changing global trends, the CAII would enable implementation of need-based research and development programmes involving industries and professional associations; organising guest lectures in emerging areas of science, commerce and humanities, and rehabilitation; organise management development programmes for the corporate, government bodies and civil Society Organisations; organise Science and Technology festivals; and rope in alumni as mentors for improving employability skills, placements and dissemination of information on global business trends, overseas opportunities in business and technological advancements.
